Overview
For the release of Shark/Ninja's new Vortex vacuum, visuals were needed to demonstrate the incredible suction power of this new product, which allows for a level of clean few on the market can match.
Approach
We outlined a series of shots that would be impossible to capture practically, but would demonstrate the products ability for picking dirt and for lifting hair entangled in carpet fibers.
One of the best qualities of CG animation is the ability to create visuals that can't be created through practical methods or reveal what can't be seen with the naked eye.
For Shark/Ninja, a key selling point of the Vortex was it's suction power. Not only does this product reach the dirt and allergens that hide in your carpet fibers, but It even has the ability to lift hair that is entangled out of carpet. Creating that effect required a number of different simulations to get movement and feeling of the micro world to feel realistic.
Taking it a step further, once the dirt is inside the vacuum, showing the vortex force behind the suction power was key to the products moniker and the product story. This effect was creating using directed volumetric simulations mixed with particle effects.
01
Each carpet fiber needed to simulated to react to forces pulling upon it so they moved uniformly and naturally. The hair was unwrapped using wire simuation.

The interior components of the vacuum needed to be simplified to create a runway for the camera to move through. As opposed to depicting the airflow with lines or graphics, we chose to show the movement through the spinning of particles and debris.
